Question:
I tried to quickly read the new group to see
if it already answered my question, but I didn't find it or a FAQ, so I hope
I'm not committing an ettiquette crime! ;-) I have had fibromyalgia and
chronic fatigue for about 5 years. I have found much relief by upping my
vitamins and natural products to build up my immune system. I still have a
few quirks, but I am able to lead a normal life. I am now halfway through a
pregnancy and I was wondering what experiences you've had of those that have
been pregnant with FM. Particularly, I was interested in the question of my
*extreme* breast tenderness. Do you think this is just a normal pregnancy
issue, or also related to FM? I am also trying to decide if I want to try
breastfeeding or if I want to bottle right away. The way they feel right
now, there is no way I could handle a little mouth chomping on it for the
greater part of the day, day after day! I look forward to any replies.
Answer:
Pregnancy is a rare topic..but we do have FM Moms, a first time Mom
just last month.
I was a fibro-mom before finding the website. By the way...all FM
questions most welcome here...no netiquette violation in the least. Glad
you're here asking.
I breast fed both my pre-FM sons, so I did my third FM boy, too. I
personally didn't experience tender breasts..so that's something you'll want
to check out with your OB-GYN.
Having FM means lotsa pillows. I have heavy breasts, so nursing was a
releif, actually. I propped my baby on my lap on about five pillows so that
my unused breast was supported while the baby was feeding from the other
one.
Tried to reuse that sling thingy with him, but the FM made that
impossible..really painful. I did use (going back and forth to pediatrician
appts.) a carrier with a tall handle? Then I put the whole thing on a
skateboard and skated my lil' David down the sidewalk. He was a premie and
didn't weigh a lot..but carrying him on my hip or such was still outta the
question.
So he rode in style.
Congratulations! Please c'mon back here often to let us know how you are
and how the baby's doing?
also, La Leche League can help you...they've helped lotsa Moms
with disabilities be able to nurse comfortably.. quite a few in our tiny
downtown library in fact. We're pretty radical when it comes to disabled
folks in my town.
