Question:
I was recently diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and have all the symptoms for
this illness. I am about to get a second specialists opinion about
treatment for Fibromyalgia. I currently take Ultram (100mg morning and
sometimes afternoon) and every third day 2.5 mg of Prednisone.
I would be most interested in getting emails from others with this
illness and in knowing what medications you are taking to help you
function daily with this illness.
I also have extreme fatigue every day and have yet to find anything that
helps except No-Doz and Prednisone. Prednisone I will need to
discontinue before long as it is not for long-term use.
I don't work because of the fatigue at this time. Ultram helps me
mostly for the knee muscle pain.
Answer:
Ultram is the best medication I have found for fibromyalgia.
Did the doctor test your thyroid glad? It's often underactive in FMS people.
Prednisone makes my FM hurt worse but I have heard other people say it does
help them. It certainly gives you energy, at least at first.
You didn't mention your sleep patterns. If you're having chronic insomnia, you
need to treat this as well. Klonopin, Ambien, and amitriptyline are some of
the meds commonly used for this.
Some people take muscle relaxants like Soma or Flexeril with good results but I
have always had problems with grogginess from these.
One of the things that helps my FM most is myofascial release massage. Yoga is
also very good, if you can handle that.
