Question:
Does anyone with Fibromyalgia take herbal or natural stuff to help deal
with it everyday, that has a body that can't handle medications? My
body is like that, i've had extreme problems and reactions to athe meds
i've tried, like Vicotion tore my stomach and worsened things, Elavil,
and Flexiril also didn't make things better, etc, etc. If any of you do
take some natural things only, and you've found it able to help you
function at some point at least to stay up from day to day, please email
me or post a response. I've been struggling to find something, currently
i take 1000 mg of vitamin c, calcium magnesium citrate, and melatonin
for insomnia. I was heard grape seed and certain enzymes are good and
certain b6 vitamins?? Anyone heard of those or are taking them?
Answer:
I think a lot of us here on the website
who use prescription meds also used supplements and herbs as well.
I've been in remission about ten weeks now after undertaking a big
dietary change. Even my tender points are gone.
I'm off prescription pain meds but continue to take the following:
CoQ 10 - 100 - 200/day
Beta Carotenes
Stresstab Multi Vit
Calcium/Magnesium
Fibro Malic (malic acid and magnesium)
Dandelion root for liver support
In addition, I still use ginger tea as a tonic, for nausea, analgesic
effect, etc.
One thing you have to remember is that if you use only herbal
supplements, they are not standardized in dosing. A newsletter I get
from Andrew Weil mentioned a study of numerous brands of similar herbs
finding a great disparity in how much "active ingredient" was available
and how much was claimed. If you going to try to manage your
fibromyalgia without prescription meds, you should also actively
explored dietary approaches to be most effective.
