Question:
I noticed a post referring to leg pain and then looked in the archives
I noticed loads of posts about leg pain. I was never told that leg
pain was a symptom of thyroid disorder. I am recently diagnosed hyper
and the Dr. said it has been going on for years. I have had
mysterious leg pain since I was a child. Mostly hips and knee joints
and what feels like right through the bones. I was tested extensively
over the years with no diagnosis. Is this something that is common
among those with thyroid problems and can it have been around since
early childhood? In college my wrists began to hurt also and one Dr.
diagnosed Fibromyalgia. I am somewhat excited at the prospect of
finally finding out what the leg pains are.
Answer:
I would look elsewhere for the types of leg pain you describe, although the
hyperthyroidism could be exacerbating an existing problem. The
hyperthyroidism will cause muscle weakness in the upper arms and thighs and
this results in some pain. Although this is a muscle problem, maybe it's
putting some pressure on your already painful joints. A rheumatologist
would be the best bet as far as getting an evaluation.
