Question:
I noticed that one of our moderators has fibromyalgia.
here is a link:
http://www.neurologychannel.com/fibromyalgia/
and i searched the net for its causes - it is not
a very well-defined or known disorder. I have some
of the symptoms but certainly not the terrible pain
that can come with it.
I was wondering if it's possible that it is a kind of
virus - i recall something strange hitting me about
3 yrs. ago, and i swear it felt like meningitis - also
my hands went completely numb (glove and stocking peripheral
neuropathy) and nobody could figure out what it was.
I am better now, but i put it all to my withdrawal from
clonazepam though perphaps the withdrawal itself was
a cause of something else that brought it on.
I wanted to ask if the people here who have it, can remember the
circusmtances under which they got it and how, and when,
and their progress.
Answer:
There are a LOT of quack theories about fibromyalgia. I couldn't even
list them all here! LOL The first one I encountered was "green oyster lipids
will cure fibromyalgia". That spam came from Australia--it took us two weeks to
get rid of it and get the account closed. Fibromites stick together and we
protect each other.
Benzos are the WORST thing for fibromyalgia, because they interfere with stage 4
sleep. I believe it is the interference in stage 4 sleep that causes the main
symptoms of fibromyalgia--this is my opinion based on my experience.
Could be, but what doctor would test for cortisol? We have discussed cortisol
at length on the fibro group--there is no consistent evidence that the problem
is rooted in cortisol--but cortisol issues can arise with fibromyalgia. I've
had my cortisol tested FOUR times this year--all were totally normal. My ACTH,
however is LOW--showing a pituitary issue, probably not related to fibromyalgia,
but related to my droopy brain
I'm a druggie. Some people get better pain drugs than I do. ;) I just
make due with what I get. Maybe I'm just getting used to being in pain 24/7?
